Finding Closure After a Job Interview ~ The Silence After the Interview

We have all been in a situation where we apply for a job, go through a nerve-wracking interview process, and then wait anxiously for a response, only to be met with.... silence. The following is my story about navigating this uncertain situation in my career journey. After applying for a position, I felt strongly about, I experienced a long, anxious wait. About a month passed without any communication from the company, which, although increasingly common, didn't ease my nerves. In search of clarity, I took a proactive step and visited the company's LinkedIn business page. The purpose of my search was to find out if the position I applied for had been filled. My curiosity was piqued when I saw someone listed in the position, so I decided to view their profile while keeping my LinkedIn account private.

Upon reviewing their profile, I found my closure. The selected candidate was perfect for the job. Their experience and qualifications spoke volumes about why they were hired. It was an enlightening moment for me. This experience assisted me in no longer thinking of the job or wondering what I could have done differently during the interview. We all have unique experiences and skill sets; sometimes, someone else's aligns better with a particular role. It's not a reflection of our inadequacies but rather a match of requirements. I want to share a story with you not to discourage you but to offer a helpful perspective. It's normal to seek answers and want closure during your job search. In fact, doing so can be a stepping stone towards understanding and accepting outcomes, which is crucial in the unpredictable journey of interviewing. After investigating LinkedIn, I finally found the closure I needed to move on. It's never easy to deal with rejection, but understanding the reasons behind it can be a powerful tool in preparing for future opportunities. Remember, every experience, whether successful or not, is a valuable part of your professional journey.
